‘BIBC NEWS’ – 2015 January

Can I begin this edition by wishing all our members, and visitors, a very peaceful and prosperous New Year. Hopefully we shall all get on somewhat better than our politicians.

If you have not yet notified the Office of your e-mail address, please do so (or if you have changed your address ).

Message for our visitors and part-time bowlers: please try to ensure you use proper flat bowling shoes. No TRAINERS allowed on the green, or any shoe with a heel.

Reminder to our own members: if you have to postpone a game, you MUST notify the Office, and not just your opposition. (this is to free up possible rinks for play).

Talking of which, we had, as usual, a number of postponed games in late December )ie 40!) Please try to re-arrange these games as each CANCELLED game costs the Club £32 (in this case £1280).

Yet another reminder about parking in the front carpark. We now have established a list of Committee, Management and Duty staff car registrations. Take heed – in 2015 we WILL call people off the green if you are parked illegally. Please try to park BETWEEN the line only.

Also: the Disabled Parking space beside the smoking area is for Wheelchair users only. Please respect this request.

Club Shop: there will be a January Sale on selected items.

Both Irish International teams have been selected for Stanley in March. See the boards for details. We, of course, wish all our members success.

Men’s Irish Finals will take place on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th January in Ballybrakes.

The Ladies’ Finals are here on Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th January.

The Vera McCourt Pairs draw has been made and is available on the Ladies Noticeboard. The matches start on Tuesday January 20th.  Once again, may I extend our thanks to Vera for her continued sponsorship of this event.

Despite installing a new biomass boiler, we ARE aware that the heating situation at present is not ideal. Unfortunately, a part for the heating controls is now no longer available, so our engineer is trying to work round the problem – but it is not a good time of the year to have a problem. The new part is to be fitted on Monday 12th January so things should improve!

Club Repairs: may I remind members that we are now occupying a building which is over 50 years old. As such, continuing repairs are essential, but we are trying to keep them to a minimum.

The case of the missing shoes: a male member has reported that his outdoor shoes which he had left in the middle changing room have gone missing – the shoes that were left in their place are totally different in style and also have holes! So, some male member has taken it upon himself to have an early Xmas present. I trust he has no conscience.

Coaching and Etiquette Point : several members have recently pointed out to me the habit some bowlers have of ‘calling’ bowls.’ Now, these same folk think it is ok for them to call their ‘own’ bowls to do certain things. BUT, let me stress, it is poor etiquette to call opponents’ to do certain things, such as ‘go into the ditch’, or ‘hit my bowl up.’

Space filler:

A senior citizen said to his 80 year old buddy:

‘So, I hear you’re getting married?’

‘Yep!’

‘Do I know her?’

‘Nope!’

‘This woman, is she good looking?’

‘Not really.’

‘Is she a good cook?’

‘Naw, she can’t cook too well.’

‘Does she have lots of money?’

‘Nope! Poor as a church mouse.’

‘Well then, is she good in bed?’

‘I don’t know.’

‘Why in the world  would you want to marry her then?’

‘Because she can still drive!’
